Course Description
It must be fully understood
that pastoral and spiritual counselors are not qualified as therapists or
psychologists. In fact, it us their responsibility to be aware of when
counseling is needed and in such cases, to advise and encourage it. It is
important, however, to be familiar with the principles of psychology since many
can be applied to pastoral and spiritual counseling. It is also important to
understand the emotional nature of man and the basic structure of that nature.
For off-campus seminarians two texts will be required, one relating to the basic
psychological processes and how they influence us in all aspects of everyday
life, and the other delineating the Eastern and Western approaches to personal
growth. On-campus students will complete required reading as directed by the
course teacher.
